Every Sunday we go to my parents house to fellowship and have a Bible study. Upon arrival, in lieu of a traditional, “hello how are you doing?”, they are more likely to ask if we have had something to eat. Let’s face it, everyone is happier on a full tummy and nobody wants to be around anyone who is hangry.
For breakfast/brunch, my parents often make our favourite chicken congee (kao peak). It really is the Asian version of chicken noodle soup. The fresh Asian ingredients give it a little more zing and additional health benefits. It’s especially a great  go-to soup for when you feel a cold coming on!

3 Surprises in Pregnancy! (TMI)

If you’re a dreamer like me, the idea of getting pregnant, dawning a brilliant glow and cushy curves had me envisioning pregnancy as some sort of ethereal state of wonder. There would be pixie dust and lace headbands, luscious lumps and bubblegum cheeks! Of course it wouldn’t be all about me…there would also be lots of nesting and baby closet curating to be done! Now you get to shop for two!!

I mean, hurling into a porcelain bowl and swollen ankles could NOT be MY experience! I forebode it! I definitely don’t believe in Earthly Karma but know God has a sense of humour. And wouldn’t you know it, I doth profess too much! I ended up, ‘err, blessed with a few other anomalies of pregnancy to make up for it! Here are 3 unsuspecting things/conditions I experienced during pregnancy.

BrandNewMom Babywearing 101

Baby-wearing (BW) fits into the Attachment Parenting philosophy. The attachment theory touts that strong relationships are formed in childhood between caregivers and babies which, are carried through to adulthood. To boot, close physical touch such as skin to skin and BW fosters secure attachments. The BW community is huge, has its own vernacular and underground buy and sell markets. While it’s argued that any BW is good BW, it turns out that for extended periods of time, there are some more favourable, efficient and comfortable varieties of baby carriers to chose from. I’m going to highlight different styles/brands of safe ergonomic BW that you may have never heard of or overlooked.

Today is my birthday!

You might be thinking, “Okay, judging by the post title, I thought this was going to be about her wedding day or the day her son was born…something along those lines!” While those were definitely amazing benchmarks in my life thus far, I was recently inspired by the lyrics of a song today that made me wonder,

why shouldn’t EVERYDAY be the BEST day of your life?!

3 ways to optimize 2015 no matter what your resolutions!

The nights have slowly been getting longer (Thank God) and this nutty year is coming to an end.  Now that you are starting to get the hang of things as a BrandNewMom, why not set some personal goals for 2015?

Well, there are only a handful of hours left of what has been a whirlwind of a year! I vaguely remember saying to myself this time last year that I wasn’t going to make any specific New Years resolutions. There was rather more of a reeling desperation to once again get a good nights sleep and sense of normality in mine and my husbands’ lives. You see, my little boy was born Dec 11, 2014 and since then, we have only just begun to get more than 3 consecutive hours sleep. But I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir and all you Brandnewmom’s know what I’m talking about!

You may have walked passed the mirror and saw what looked like a teenage version of yourself! You can thank the increase in oestrogen during pregnancy which has done wonders for your aesthetics! Your hair is as thick and silky as Repunzels’, your nails as healthy and hard as an acrylic French mani, and your skin is literally glowing like the sunrise. This more youthful look can do wonders for your mood and keep you feeling wonderful despite any inherent pregnancy physical symptoms you may be experiencing. (more…)

Trouble Shooting Iced Christmas Cookies

20141212_171053

Everyone has a favourite bunch of recipes they look forward to baking around the holidays. For me, sugar cookies carefully decorated in royal icing is a labour of love.
This year my sister from OdieLuMediaGroup asked me to do a corporate Christmas Cookie package for her VIP clients. This normally would be an easy undertaking but I agreed before realizing she needed them done the same day as my baby boys first birthday! Needless to say, I will never do that again. However, I said I would do them and kept my word.
This time around, I made some big cookie mistakes. Here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when baking your Christmas sugar cookies this year;
